My Goals For HNG8 Internship

I have built products ranging from:

  • Point of sales application
  • Computer-based testing applications
  • Blogs

My career goals aim at combining my technical skills with my passion for adding value to the startup ecosystem.

I want to explore writing and how I can provide value through creating.

What is HNG Internship?

It is a long-running, large-scale virtual internship for people learning to code and design. It focuses on the post-training phase and creates a virtual work environment for participants as defined on zuri website.

My Coding Journey

My introduction to coding was in 2015 when I accidentally bumped into a pdf for learning C language. I didn't know how to google my challenges so I quit when I couldn't figure out how to use the text editor I downloaded. I tried 100days of code on code.org which I completed but couldn't proceed to go through with the learning path due to undefined goals for my learning.

I have got my hands dirty with PHP, Ruby, and Javascript and quit. I was either too eager and miss the basics or too uninterested to build anything with any of the languages.

My breakthrough came in 2020 when I was tasked to build a point of sales web application by emblic technologies. I was learning the basics of python (for the second time) during the time of that challenge and had to rise to the challenge. I succeeded at this task and delivered myshop45 using the python framework Flask, MySQL for database, and Bootstrap for the frontend. This was only possible due to a clearly defined goal in learning python. I was to use it to build a business solution, within a specified timeframe. Without this clearly defined learning path, my prodigal path to python would have ended like all my failed attempts at coding.

2021 has been a year of continuous breakthrough after another. My most trying attempt at personal development was in May when I registered for Zuri internship, for the python backend track. Zuri had a concise structure for their trainees, through their learning resources which were being rolled out on their youtube channel; all grouped based on available learning tracks. These tracks include:

With Zuri, I was introduced to the Django framework, built a blog as a task.

Since Zuri, it has been one internship to another with clearly defined goals of what I intend to achieve from each.

My HNG8 Goals

This internship was designed to model a real tech environment for growing designers and programmers. I am enrolled for the backend track and comfortable in using python as a growing backend web developer and so ready for all the challenges and tasks which will emanate from this 8weeks internship. I hope to make my mark, through team collaboration, new experiences, network, and career advancement, and a tech job.

My sincere gratitude to Zuri and HNG for their unrelenting actions to upskill a large human resource globally. Truly they are making their mark.
